Folks,
I know this has been discussed in the past on this and other message boards but I wanted to hear some more opinions about it. What is the value of green card to you?
I know different ppl have different reasons like ability to switch jobs, ability to travel freely, ability to have a job for spouse etc. All said and done how many of you would like to go back to your home countries in the next 5-6 years? I know a lot of people have issues such as aging parents back home or they simply don't see themselves living in a foreign land forever. I guess my question is what percentage of ppl aspiring for a GC view it as a convenience vs percentage of ppl who actually see it as a path to settling down in US for good.

No, they did not take the original offline...it was there online in archived sections. They may be getting calls seeing the current one and the archived one....so they thought to clarify (making us read both of them together). That is all.
{hmm....that makes me think...did USCIS complain to DOS that they are still receiving 485's and that the old bulletin still exists online. So, DOS found this solution....Just my 0.02

But when they revised it on July 2nd they took the original VB offline. Now they bring the original VB back online and they are asking folks look at both of them together.

Here are some of the stats from Mathew Oh's website:
According to the State Department, from October 1, 2006 through May 30, 2007, the USCIS requested and was authorized the total EB visa numbers of 66,426. Between June 1 and the first few days of July (?), the USCIS requested and was authorized over 60,000 EB visa numbers, in approximately one month. Since it has been made clear by the USCIS that during the last weekend of June 30 and July 1 (2 days) the USCIS approved 25,000 EB 485 applications, apparently over 40,000 visa numbers were requested and authorized before the weekend in a period of less than one month. Obviously the 60,000 plus cases must thus have been approved (?) in one month. Unconformed sources indicate that they processed and approved (?) a substantial number of applications on Sunday, July 1, exhausting the EB numbers by July 1 and making the EB number unavailable not from July 1 but from July 2, 2007. I reviewed my comment and I haven't wrote anything trashing another country and I didn't say that USCIS is bad. In fact, if you read carefully I am trying to defend USCIS from "Mirage's comments".
I don't know what nationality you are, but, I am an Australian and I don't need to suck up to get my green card. I will get my greencard soon, probably sooner than you.
In fact, there is a special immigration program "only for Australians" that allow me and my dependents to work and live in Australia indefinitely. That was signed in to law by the President last year, if you didn't know about that. I guess you got me wrong. Australia and America have good relationships as you know.
I still would stress to thank America for giving me the opportunity to work and live and experience America.

I received the rfe details today..Here is my list of documents needed by uscis
1) updated properly completed form G-325A
2) employment letter from my new employer to prove that i am working on the same/similar job as my LC (since I did not submit AC21 documents), I need to do it now, since I changed my address and the letter mentions that I am not staying in the same state as of my original LC and now they require AC21 documents.

There is no doubt about NRIs are the prime reason for the real estate boom in India. It is tottally unbelivable that 2 bedroom flat in a normal second class town has gone to up to 40 lakes. Decent independent houses are in terms of crores in small cites. Two factors. One is foreign money and second in black money from local dadas/politicians. Also demand vs supply. The availble land is small and demand for that land is too high due to these two gropus.
I visited one of my NRI friends house in India, where he is not going to live as he is a US citizen. His parents already won two houses and they bought another house as a investment. This house in a recent development area in a small town where there is no high tech employment is avialable; In my feeling it may not worth 5 lakes; they were selling at 45 lakes. Even if anyone ready to pay 45 lakes there is no unit is avialable; everything was sold to NRIs. No resident won the houses in that area. All the dads and mos are baby sitting the houses. Renting alos not that easy. It is tottally unbelivable. I wonder why all the NRIs buying house in India and increisng the house price? The guys working here (or any part of the world) and not going to live in India, why government should allow to buy the house and increse the price? Everyone tries to do real estate bussiness there. That is the main reason for price increase.
Is is sad. All these NRIs are going to learn a very valuable lesson. Speculation is not a good strategy for investing. A lot learned that in the past few months here in USA. In a year we will be seeing the full blown post bubble correction in India. If one can rent an apartment for 15,000 why would one buy it for 50 lakhs. The interest alone on 50 lakhs is 50,000 every month. It is like buy and rent it and loose money. Instead why don't they deposit in a bank and get 50,000 every month:confused:

I have faxed my letters...sent 7 by USPS as well to get a hard copy reply. I do not want to discourage this effort, but In my opinion NOTHING will happen with Fax/Email as these are the people who show that they recognize the problem and working the best way they could. No room for improvement.
I do not think lawsuit will work either. Courts are goin to believe all the plans and implementation details and success stories from DOL.
I met 2 members of Congress ( one Ex)and they heard me patiently, appreciated me explaining the problem to them, showed their empathy but no results. One of them I guess was instrumental for the fillibuster the Spector's bill...Great...I do not blame anybody..I realized later that If someone is elected based on conservative ideology and Xenophobic attitude, how is s/he going to help me.
I was impressed by the rallies the illegals aliens have organized. That definitely had major impact as a community asking for their rights. It was covered in all Major /Minor channels and almost all major radio station. It had a major impact in congress hearings. A force to recon with.....
We are all high skilled people who I think,
-do not have time to go out for rally,
-have enough time for suggestions to others in this and other forum(internet is great),
-do not want to participate or donate for a lawsuit,
-always think about divisions among ourselves (01 & 02 Vs 03/04 devide),
-wish to take meanigless positions (stopping PERM..Cursing IV..),
-believe why to move their butt as they have consistent job and not to worry about the time( If it comes early..its a bonus),
-take and reply to opinions personally
-think others will get benefitted too
-wait and watch (Home country is an option too)
-worry about a day leave for rally or meeting
-wait for Visa Bullettin
-discuss Illegals while we are in worst shape than them
I guess if we do not put our acts together, We deserve the situation we are in today.
I suggest, we make city wise list of the suffering people, meet once in 1 or 2 weeks, choose a lead and have leads finalize the date for the rally/ further action.....and show up.
If NOT, then simply show up at Capitol in white dress after Spring recess of Congress.
Unless somebody comes up with any other viable option, I guess Its a wake up call to be answered. Rally from Jefferson to Capitol via 1600 P. Avenue....We donot need 500,000. Even 30 to 50 people with a week notice to all major TV channels will work.
Since, Illegals had such a great rally, Media will definitely pay attention to LEGAL's rally.
Local folks...Congress works until late..Early morning or after work hour is fine. Not sure abt Saturday. If no one is interested..fine..I have got two hands to display at least one banner.

That is not true. Receipt Date is when the service center physically receives the package. They date stamp it and then use it to enter that RD when they generate the Notice on the ND.
What you see on the status page for sure reflects the ND and NOT the RD. So you can pretty much ignore what the status page says and rely on what your physical notice says (it states the actual RD when they physically received the package!)

Funds are really needed but another important thing is to leverage the momentum obtained due to CIR and more recently July Visa fiasco.
I think iV should aggressively focus on recapture of visas, 1 visa per family(Hillary Clinton already supports us on this and we can rope in Zoe loe****
who supported us now) and also removing country based limit.
Momentum is very important and now is the time to restart and I m sure funds ll flow. Removing country based quota is the easiest one to target first.

I am silent reader on this site from last one month. It is great to know lot of people are working hard behing the scenes and really appreciate what IV has done regarding bulletin fiasco.
